The Top Table Edit

The most important seats in the house on any wedding day are of course those belonging to the Bride and Groom, and here at The Event Edit we just love to dress a top table, however big or small it may be.

This is a space where couples can really make it their own with endless options, from adding soft draping with carefully chosen fabric, to filling the tabletop with flowers and candles for that romantic touch. But who sits with the happy couple can often be a difficult decision for many reasons and with the increasing popularity of sweetheart tables, we have been intrigued to find out whether they are simply a sign of the times, or are they here to stay?

The Sweetheart Table

With many recent weddings having restricted numbers and household bubble limitations the sweetheart table was the perfect solution. Many couples have used this concept to seize the opportunity for some blissful time together amidst the hustle and bustle of their wedding day, a stolen moment for just the two them over a dreamy candlelit dinner.

Décor for a sweetheart table can be simple yet effective, our large peacock chairs are a firm favourite as the main focal point or tealights paired with glass bud vases filled with flowers also create the perfect setting, these details maintain the intimate style of a sweetheart table without it being lost in the room.

The Traditional Top Table

However idyllic the sweetheart table may sound, some couples simply prefer to keep with tradition and to enjoy an iconic part of the day, the speeches of course, seated with their loved ones. After all a wedding is as much about the union of two families as it is about two people.

Plus, with the extra space for décor that comes with a traditional top table, couples can choose to be extravagant here, and at The Event Edit we offer an array of different styles of lanterns and candlesticks to give any top table the wow factor.

Sweetheart Table vs Traditional Top Table

Now that Covid restrictions on weddings have been lifted, we carried out a recent poll on our Instagram story www.Instagram.com/theeventedituk to gauge whether the sweetheart table will play a role in future weddings, or will couples largely be returning to tradition. Without a doubt the extended top table was still the most popular choice with a massive 75% of couples choosing to share their day sat alongside their nearest and dearest. From the responses we had via Instagram, the size of a top table ranged from 6 people to 36, suggesting the top table may be scrapped all together in some cases. However, on average and in keeping with tradition the average sized top table is for 8 people.
